This vintage children's book, "Rusty Rings a Bell" by Eleanor K. Vaughan, Franklin M. Branley, and illustrated by Paul Galdone, is a great addition to any young reader's collection. Published in 1960 by Weekly Reader Children's Book Club, this first edition hardcover picture book is beautifully illustrated and comes with a dust jacket.
With a dry cell, two wires, and a doorbell, Rusty makes an important discovery. He learns to make a bell ring. It is so easy he does it himself, and that makes it more exciting. He attaches the wires to the dry cell and the bell, and is surprised at the results. Here is the perfect book for answering the young child's questions and for developing his inherent interest in the physical world around him. The material for the experiments is found in any home or may be purchased inexpensively. All of it can be used with complete safety. The authors have had wide experience in the field of teaching. Their explanations of scientific phenomena for the very young reader are clear and accurate. And the directions for doing the experiments are extremely simple. Paul Galdone's pictures add to the fun. They are bright and colorful and show just exactly how each step in the experiments is carried out.
